Hayes Valley: Where Ideas Come Together
In the heart of San Francisco, a 19-block neighborhood has continually reinvented itself, shaped by the people, ideas, and communities that call it home. TEDxHayesValley brings that spirit of connection to the stage.
A neighborhood that knows how to reinvent itself.
Hayes Valley has been shaped by people who refused to accept that things had to stay the way they were.
Once home to seasonal creeks and produce farms, the neighborhood grew into a community of Victorian homes, artists, businesses, and families. Decades later, residents came together to challenge the Central Freeway that divided their neighborhood — transforming the space it left behind into parks, gardens, and places for people to gather.
That spirit of reinvention continues today, as Hayes Valley brings together artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, neighbors, and innovators from across San Francisco.
What is TEDx?
In the spirit of discovering and spreading ideas, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxHayesValley, where x = independently organized TED event.
At our TEDxHayesValley event, TED Talks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. Speakers never pay to join a TEDx event. Consideration, speaker coaching and event participation along with attendance are all provided free of charge. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
